Indications

Male breast reduction surgery is performed to treat gynecomastia (enlarged male breasts). Candidates for gynecomastia surgery include men who are close to their normal weight but are bothered by large breasts and/or “puffy nipples. In men with gynecomastia, the excess breast tissue may be either fat or actual breast tissue. Both versions of the condition can be addressed through male breast reduction. Fatty gynecomastia is typically treated with liposuction, while glandular breast tissue needs to be directly excised. In Dr. Corbett’s experience a combination of the two treatment options delivers the best results and is his preferred method of treatment.

Goals of Surgery

The purpose of male breast reduction surgery is to restore a more masculine appearance to the chest by removing excess fat and breast tissue.

Where Does the Surgery Take Place?

Male breast reduction is performed in a surgery center on an outpatient basis.

When more extensive reduction is required, Dr. Corbett makes incisions around the areolas (colored skin surrounding the nipples). I areolar reduction is necessary an incision around the areolar border will be used. Dr. Corbett will make every effort to ensure the incisions are placed in natural body creases where they will be minimally visible.
